The Problem is That Your Soul is Rushed

Double standards exist all throughout our society. One common one especially:

“You’re important if you are busy. But oh, you can’t do anything because you’re too busy, so you're not important.”

What?

Lies. Lies. Lies.

It’s okay to be busy.

The problem is when your soul is rushed.

Think about it. Do you know the feeling I’m talking about? Do you know when you feel this? It’s a by-product of losing your focus because you let in the pressures of this world get too close to your heart, to your faith.

This next semester at school I am going to do what I need to do, but prevent overwhelming myself. This part is common sense.

However, I am going to do what I do, and walk through my day instead of run, making sure that I can still breathe and guard my heart.

You make beautiful things
You make beautiful things out of dust
You make beautiful things
You make beautiful things out of us

Where They Are

Recently, I was talking with one of my friends, and he said something that I would consider very good advice.

"It's all about meeting people where they are."

This is a comment that is not often said, and one not often practiced. We all seem to want people to either be somewhere, be someone or be consistently something, when in truth we are not showing them the grace that Jesus has shown us.

So basically, Jesus meets us where we are [broken, selfish, knocked down by our own pride...], so why shouldn't we seek to go to others wherever they are at? This is how we reach those other, unknown, normal people like us.

The Truth About Trust

Okay, so we all know that everyone has lies and myths and half-truths that they've been told. This is simply a fact of life.

However, I'm about to tell you the real part about trust that I've learned, as it's a big take-away from my journey in Honduras.

What if I told you trusting God was easy?

Do I dare say that?
Do I dare mention the "e" word?

But what if it is?

What if you understood how small you are and caught a glimpse of how BIG our God is?
I can't say I completely get this, or act like I do, but in Honduras, I was humbled. I began to see how moving a mountain range to God is as easy as breathing.

This isn't something that you learn on a mission trip and just leave it at that. This truth is one that affects your whole life--because you are beginning to understand just who you are and what faith in the Creator of the universe actually is.

I'm not saying that trusting God with anything or everything is always going to be easy, but it all starts with understanding something we cannot fail to miss: the all-encompassing, omnipresent Lord who is our first love and the one who came to save us from ourselves.

My Summer Summation--In Song

Don't Let Yourself Be the Same

One of the many things that this "teachable summer", as I call it, has taught me is that you cannot afford to (and should not ever) let yourself be the same.

It just can't happen.

And being back "home" this summer, I've realized that there are many voices that are trying to tell me otherwise. They want me to be the same.

But guess what?

I don't want to.

So I won't be.

Knowing who I am now (and who I'm becoming), how could you want me to be the same? How could I want that?  I'm a completely a different person. A more aware person, no longer someone who feels obliged to fill in the cookie-cutter way of living. Not anymore.

So, from now on I vow to be true to myself, and to try to not be swayed by others or those voices. For it is the Lord who made me the way that I am--where else is the allowance to be anyone or anything else?

My Weekend

Have you ever had a weekend where you just disappear for awhile? Where you just go away?

That's what I did. After two of my jobs ended, I had to physically get away from all the stress that threated to follow me. I was beginning to get overwhelmed. I hate that feeling, because it feels like you're drowning and can never see things right, see things as they are. But my Lord, as faithful as He always is, came to my rescue and granted me a weekend of positive rest, one where I could just lay my head back and sleep, and just as importantly, breath. It is times like these when my heart aches for more of my Savior and my heart rejoices in how much He covers me.

All these people I got to see, meet and reconnect with just blow me away. Knowing their hearts and being able to see that in them makes me realize how beautiful God is at making things, at making us in all our shapes and sizes and sayings and laughs. So from this weekend, I have learned that God puts thought into things that we probably don't know, don't think about and don't understand. All for HIs glory, and for us.

Something Bigger--But Not Yet

It's funny when you begin to see your list of "lasts", you also begin to see the bigger picture. That these things that you once though were big, are actually little steps to something bigger.

It's the last day of my internship at CCC and I am sitting here waiting for paint to dry. It makes me think--if this is now, what's next? If this is while I'm here, where next?

So many things of this summer have been little passing moments, things packed into weeks. Sure I've learned a lot from all of this--more than anything. I've learned things that are necessary for the next step. Things like trusting God. Anymore, I can't see how you can't go on without having learned that lesson.

I'm excited that I get to have the challenge of keeping all of this as a part of me when school comes crashing back. If I were to ever leave these lessons behind (yes, there will be a blog post on those lessons soon), I realized that I would be leaving part of the "new me" behind. I never knew how much it was a struggle to keep yourself, yourself in this world. Bring it on.
